This Privacy Policy applies to the Mentie mobile application ("Application"), available on iOS and Android, developed by the Mentie Team. By using the Application, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy — especially given that many of our users are teenagers.
Information Collection and Use
The Application may collect certain information automatically when you download and use it, including:
- Your device's IP address and device model
- Usage data (daily moves completed, streak length, plan type, session duration)
- App settings, preferences, and onboarding choices (name, age range, pronouns, plan)
- Operating system version (iOS / Android)
- Crash reports and diagnostic data for app stability

- Onboarding profile data (name, age range, pronouns, plan preference)
- Journal entries you write in the app (stored locally on your device)
- Mentor chat conversation history (used to power contextual responses)
- Daily move completion data (move type, date, completion status)
- Streak and progress data (total moves, streak length)
- Subscription and account information
- Feedback or support messages you send us
How We Use This Data
- To personalise your daily plan and mentor experience
- To track and display your streak and daily move history
- To recommend the right plan based on your onboarding answers
- To improve the quality, safety, and performance of the app
- To troubleshoot technical issues and fix bugs
- To process and manage your subscription
- To respond to your support requests
Camera Access
Camera Use: Mentie uses your device camera solely for the Homework Helper feature — to capture an image of a problem for AI-assisted solving. Please note:
- Camera access is only active when you tap to add a photo in the Homework Helper
- No photos are stored, uploaded, or transmitted to our servers
- Image processing is performed via secure API and the image is not retained after analysis
- We do not use your camera to identify you or collect biometric data
- You can disable camera access at any time in your device settings (Homework Helper will be unavailable)
Mentor Chat and AI Processing
AI Conversations: The mentor chat feature is powered by AI. When you send a message, your input is processed to generate a response. Please be aware:
- Mentor chat messages may be processed by our AI provider to generate responses
- We do not sell or share your conversation content with third parties for marketing purposes
- Conversations may be reviewed in anonymised form to improve the safety and quality of the mentor
- Do not share sensitive personal information (passwords, full name, address, etc.) in chat
- The mentor is not a human and is not a licensed mental health professional
Journal Data
Your journal entries are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers by default. We do not read, access, or process your journal content. If you uninstall the app, local journal data will be deleted.
Third-Party Services
The Application uses third-party services to help it operate. These services may receive anonymised or aggregated data only:
- RevenueCat — for subscription management on iOS and Android
- Apple Analytics / Firebase — for app performance monitoring
- Crashlytics — for stability reporting and bug tracking
- AI Provider — for powering the mentor chat and homework helper features
- Cloud Storage Services — for streak and progress backup and sync
Platform-Specific Information
iOS (Apple App Store)
- Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID and App Store account
- Apple may collect diagnostic and usage data per their own privacy policy
- iCloud backup may include app data if enabled on your device
Android (Google Play Store)
- Subscriptions are managed through your Google account and Google Play
- Google may collect diagnostic and usage data per their own privacy policy
- Google Drive backup may include app data if enabled on your device
Data Storage and Security
Local & Cloud Storage
- Your plan settings, streak data, and progress are stored locally and optionally synced to the cloud for backup
- Journal entries are stored locally only and never uploaded
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties
- All data transmissions use industry-standard encryption (TLS 1.3)
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, including encryption, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Opt-Out Rights
You may stop data collection at any time by:
- Uninstalling the application from your device
- Requesting account and data deletion via support (email below)
- Disabling analytics in the app settings (if available)
- Revoking camera access in your device settings
Data Retention
We retain account and usage data as long as you use the app and maintain an active account. If you delete the app, local data is removed from your device. You can request deletion of any cloud-synced data by contacting support. Subscription records are retained by the App Store or Google Play per their billing policies.
Age Restrictions
Age Requirement: Mentie is intended for users aged 13 and older (or the minimum age required by law in your country). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@mentie.app and we will delete that information promptly.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data and usage history
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Object to data processing
- Data portability (export your progress history)
- Restrict processing of your data

International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws.
California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. For significant changes affecting your personal information, we will notify you through the app or via email.
